Fresher Job Market News India: What Changed This October (2026)
Naukri JobSpeak, the IT-BPM fresher outlook for FY27, Xpheno tech openings, Bain entry-level data, HCLTech and Infosys fresher hiring and the PM Internship Scheme, with sources and what to do this week.

If you are a student or a fresher in India, the job market news this month can feel contradictory. One report says hiring is up, the next says entry-level postings are falling. Both can be true at once, because the growth is happening in specific skills, sectors and cities. Here is what the latest reports actually say, with links to each source, and what it means for your search this week.
1. White-collar hiring is up slightly, and AI/ML is leading
The Naukri JobSpeak index for September 2026 stood at 3,053, about 2% higher than 3,002 a year earlier (News18 / PTI). AI/ML hiring grew about 20%, while IT/software services was down about 4%.
For freshers specifically, the same report shows overall fresher hiring up about 1%, but fresher AI/ML hiring up about 19%. BFSI and oil & gas also posted double-digit fresher growth. Among cities, Coimbatore (+20%) and Vadodara (+13%) stood out for fresher hiring.
What it means: the overall market is flat-to-slightly-up, so growth is coming from specific skills. If you are in tech, some hands-on AI/ML or data work on your CV now carries real weight.
2. IT-BPM fresher hiring is expected to rebound in FY27
The Economic Times reported on 14 October on HAN Digital's IT-BPM Graduate Hiring Outlook 2027. It expects fresher hiring in the sector to reach up to 2.1 lakh in FY27, up from about 1.75 lakh in FY26. That is still well below the roughly 4 lakh freshers hired in FY22.
The report says global capability centres (GCCs) will take about 28% of these freshers and IT services about 60%. Pay is splitting: specialised roles are quoted at ₹12–22 lakh, while entry-level ITeS pay remains at about ₹3–4 lakh. Bengaluru accounts for about 25% of onboarding, and hiring in tier 2 and tier 3 cities is growing about 35% year on year.
What it means: the same fresher degree can lead to very different packages. The gap comes down to skills you can prove, so don't apply for a generic role with a generic CV.
3. Tech openings are at an 18-month high
India Today reported on 7 October that Xpheno counted about 1.23 lakh active tech job openings in India, an 18-month high, up about 17% year on year and 5% month on month. IT services accounted for about 66,000 of them, and about 15,000 were entry-level openings.
4. Entry-level postings are still under pressure
There is a counterweight. India Today reported on 16 October, citing Bain data, that job postings in Q2 2026 fell about 5% overall, and junior and entry-level postings fell about 11%.
What it means: more openings overall does not mean more junior seats. Expect more competition per entry-level role. Apply early, and use referrals and campus drives, not just job-board clicks.
5. Big IT firms are hiring freshers again
HCLTech said in its Q2 FY27 results that it added 6,136 freshers in the quarter, up from 1,056 in Q1. Net headcount rose by 6,450 to 230,339 (Moneycontrol).
Infosys is reported to be running an off-campus drive for the 2024–2026 batches, with registration open until 6 November 2026. Reported packages are ₹6.25 LPA for Digital Specialist Engineer, and ₹10, 16 or 21 LPA for the Specialist Programmer levels. Check the details on the official Infosys graduates page before you apply.
6. PM Internship Scheme: more people joining, but drop-off is a concern
ThePrint reported on 13 October that more than 30,000 candidates have joined internships in the scheme's third pilot round, with attrition around 10%. Offers will continue to be posted until December, with joining until January 2027. The Indian Express noted a joining rate of 9.5% in round III and a completion rate of 39.4% in round II.
According to the official PMIS portal, the scheme is for people aged 18–25. It pays ₹9,000 a month, gives a one-time ₹6,000 grant, and internships last 6 or 9 months.
What to do this week
- Pick a lane. AI/ML, data, BFSI and GCC roles are where fresher demand is growing. Shape one version of your CV for your lane.
- Build one proof-of-work project. With fewer junior seats, a live project helps you stand out from other applicants. Productothon 01 is a free five-day student build week (1–5 November), and problem statements drop on 30 October. Solo or teams of up to 4.
- Look beyond the metros. Tier 2 and tier 3 hiring is growing fast, so don't filter out Coimbatore, Vadodara or Pune roles by default.
- Apply early to verified roles. We check every listing on HireDoor jobs against the company's own careers page, and we add new internships and fresher jobs every morning.
All figures come from the sources linked above as of 29 October 2026. HireDoor has not independently audited them.
